Club Member and Round Britain heroine, Hilary Lister, was in the RCPYC last week to discuss her latest project – a film on her life which obviously includes sailing – with some of the Club's ‘Grande Fromage’.
As ever we will do our best to help and give you the latest up dates. She passes her best wishes open to everyone and hopes to partake in a sailing event – or several – with us this season.
On the Social side the Wine Tasting Event was a great success and will be repeated as one of our regular and frequent events.
Valentines Nights have not proved that popular – please forward jokes etc. – as an event over recent years but the Curry plus Band was well attended and yet another successful evening was had. Local Band Freeway with Lifeboat person Pete Saunders in their line up performed superbly. And for the record the four curries produced by our own Master of Cuisine Dave Ford were top notch.
A bright and sunny Sunday morning saw twenty five members go for a walk – on the Southern Breakwater - as part of the tour of the port and the visit to Port Control arranged by Mo Parkin. ‘Well organized, thoroughly enjoyable and very interesting plus a great Boat Ride were the comments from those who joined in. Thanks are also due to Deputy Harbour Master Simon Moore who explained some of the less obvious complexities of the Ports Operation and more importantly what is expected from skippers of yachts. And as ever yet again Dave F for the bacon rolls before we left.
The Sailing Committee under the auspices of Rear Comm. ‘the other’ Dave Ford met last week to discuss the proposed sailing, cruising and rally programmes. It promises to be varied and with the Olympic Events, Queen's Jubilee plus the traditional items in our calendar something for just about everyone with a waterborne desire.
For those skippers and boat owners who would like to be copied in, please contact either Dave on 07722446788 or the Club on 01304 206262.
And for those who would like to crew in any of our events – regardless of experience – contact Bernard on 07894 097450 or again the club.
Let us hope for some decent weather,
Bernard and Richard

On Sunday 31st October 2010, the 'People's Port' Bid for the Port of Dover was launched by Dover and Deal MP, Charlie Elphicke. Dame Vera Lynn is a supporter of the bid, and joined the MP, the Mayor of Dover and others for the launch at the Sea Sports Centre on Dover harbour. After the speeches Dame Vera and her daughter repaired to the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club, along with many others from the launch party, for tea and sandwiches. The Commodore, Professor Irving Benjamin. announced that Dame Vera had been elected an Honorary Member of the club, and presented her with an engraved glass. a miniature of the Club's Speyside Malt whisky and a copy of the RCPYC anthology of poetry and prose 'Almost On Dover Beach'.
On March 7th 2008, we were fortunate to have Hilary Lister as our visiting speaker.
